School of Seven Bells: Low Times

School of Seven Bells

This song by School of Seven Bells got me through a bumpy flight this morning. Get their album Ghostory. It’s so nostalgic! It reminds me of something that happened 20 years ago, but I can’t remember what it was now. Perhaps you can remind me?

The Cloud Room: Hey Now Now

This song is good! The album, apparently, not so good. Pitchfork wraps up their review by saying: “still, if they get so excited about the mundane details of travel (‘paaaaaaaaayed the bus faaaaaaaare!’), then maybe touring outside of New York will give them more material as worthy as ‘Hey Now Now’.”

Regina Spektor: On the Radio

Fantastic song. There are so many things to like here, but the icing on the cake is that part at the end with the uh-ohs. I love that.

Favourite Sons: Hang On Girl

Geez Louise!  Good news from the Favourite Sons: they’ve signed to Vice Records and have a record due on September 12!

Also, You Ain’t No Picasso has some live recordings of a recent KEXP-sponsored event in Soho.

Plusorminus: Steal the Blueprints

I love this song (by plusorminus)!

Strokes: I’ve Got Nothing To Say

That’s a lyric in this cool remix of the Strokes’ Ask Me Anything done by a friend of a friend.

Fredo Viola: The Sad Song

This is a lovely, classic video that perfectly fits the song composition. My understanding is that he made it himself using a crappy cell phone camera. What he achieves here is remarkable.

Metric: The List

Metric is one of my favorites.  Like top five.  Check this video for ‘The List’ from their last album.  Also check their site.

UPDATE 7/1: I was just swinging through, updating links on a Saturday night (like you do), and noticed that they’ve posted a/the video for Poster of a Girl!  It’s taking forever to download so you will have to be your own critic.

Calla: Swagger

calla

Teaching the Indie Kids posts a pretty cool Calla track today (yesterday, really): Swagger.  I have to say, I’m not such a Calla fan as yet.  I saw them open for the French Kicks and they were pretty blah.  But it was a late show.

Update: the picture above, which used to be Stryper because I thought that was funny, is back to being Calla.
